WELCOME TO CMS TASMANIA

As a fellowship of Christian people, CMS Tasmania exists to glorify God through the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ in all the world.

Our vision is to see God’s Church growing in all the world as lives and communities are transformed by Christ.

Based in Bellerive, CMS-Tasmania has regional committees in the north west, north and south. We are generously supported by volunteers throughout the Diocese.

From 1 February, our State Director is David Boyd. He looks forward to serving you as you play your part in God's mission to our world.

SUMMERVIEW 2010

SummerView 2010 took place from 14 to 17 January. I lost count of how many people told me their brains were full, their heads hurt, or they'd been "well fed" (pointing to their heads).

We had a really full program, with lots of warm fellowship and lots of fantastic inpurt, and so most people went home a little overloaded. As usual, we met from Thursday evening to Sunday lunchtime, at Camp Banksia, in beautiful seaside Port Sorell.

Vicotira generously lent us Brad Jackson, as a visiting missionary - and Brad generously made himself available. He had a number of opportunities to fill people in on his work in Japan.

We also chatted to Branch missionaries Andrew and Pam Lake in Syria via a Skype link. As well as talking to us and taking questions from the audience, Pam and Andrew were able to see the pictures they had emailed us the day before projected onto the screen at SummerView, and provided photo commentary all the way from Syria! As one ex-missionary commented, it was a long way from five weeks for a letter to get home, and then five weeks back again!

We had three elective sessions, each with a choice of seven electives, ranging from free time, to 'The Gospel and Poverty', to 'Doing Mission in Prime Time'.

Instead of the usual one missiology speaker, this year we had two: Armin Sukri from Indonesia, and Dennis Tongoi from Kenya. Both were very warmly received, adn provided some stimulating challenges. And our Bible input was provided by Peter Adam of Ridley College, Melbourne. His studies on 2 Corinthians were very challenging and thought-provoking, and much of the reason why people felt so well fed.

Another highlight was the commissioning of new State Director David Boyd, who has served with CMS in Zaire along with his wife Prue.

Numbers at SummerView were down a little this year, but those who attended were thoroughly blessed, and enthused and challenged to go on serving the Lord in his great mission to the world.
