Mission is a core expression of God’s character. He has been reaching out to humanity since we rebelled against him, out of grace and steadfast love. Having worked out his redemptive purposes in Jesus, he still has a grand plan for his people. In Christ, God continues to send his church into the world with the gospel, and he is really clear about how he wants this mission accomplished. Rev Dr Wei-Han Kuan will take us through some passages in the Bible showing us God’s grand plan, key values for his church in mission, and how CMS seeks to apply these values.
Rev Dr Wei-Han Kuan will be our speaker this year and he is the Executive Director of CMS Victoria. Wei-Han is Malaysian-Chinese by birth and went to high school in Singapore. He is married to Valerie and they have three school-aged children. Wei-Han’s family migrated to Australia in time for him to read Arts and Law at the University of Melbourne. After a brief career in taxation law he trained for ministry at Ridley College. He served as an Anglican minister in local church ministry before coming to CMS. Wei-Han’s research into the history of evangelicalism has been published as “Foundations of Anglican Evangelicalism in Victoria 1847-1937”.
As well as hearing from Wei-Han, our Saturday Conference in Perth will have a creche, kids and youth programs, as well as some interesting missionary and ministry electives.
Why do people go as missionaries to live in different countries? What is it like to live in a different country? What does mission have to do with me? If you are in Pre-Primary-Yr6 come and join us as we explore God’s mission in the world! At Missions Conference Kids we will be playing games and doing activities to help us see what life can be like for missionaries to live in different countries. We will get to meet some CMS missionaries, and see why they share God’s good news overseas. We will also be praying for God’s great mission for people all over the world to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
Samantha Evans, our Kids Program Coordinator, completed her Diploma of Christian studies with Youthworks in 2016 and has experience running children’s activities with Scripture Union and CRU Camps. She worships at Horizon Reformed Christian Fellowship where her and her husband share a passion to see the Bible taught thoroughly and exegetically to people young and old. Her conviction is that this is what will equip them for every good work — including working towards a world that knows Jesus.
I’m just a teenager — what has telling people about Jesus in another country got to do with me? Come and explore what God says about this, and every Christian is called to be part of his global gospel mission in Philippians. Come experience a little bit about what it’s like to be on mission overseas with some of our CMS overseas missionaries and learn how you can see a world that knows Jesus.
Joseph Hewitt, our Youth Program Coordinator, studies at Trinity Theological College, is an intern at Dalkeith Anglican and attends St Matthew’s Anglican where he serves alongside the UniChurch and devotions teams. He loves opening the Bible with people of every age and youth in particular because he believes that knowing God better is the best thing. Joe enjoys cycling, running, and drinking iced lattes.
