A story of hope – Monica

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

“My coach really has a gift of healing.” These are TAFES (Tanzanian Fellowship of Evangelical Students) staff worker Monica’s words about CMS gospel worker Arthur Davis.

Monica works on campus with university and college students, discipling them to live for Jesus. She described how she felt before she talked to Arthur:
“There was a time when my heart was so down and things were not moving and I could not pray, I could not study the Bible, and that was the moment when the coach met with me, and we talked. He asked me how I felt, what was going on, and I shared about how I felt and what happened.

“And from that time, I felt, whoa, things have lifted from my heart. It was not just one session, but ongoing … it really helped me to heal. I can say that my coach really has a gift of healing, emotional healing.”

When Monica experienced difficulties in ministry, she and Coach Arthur worked them through. Monica’s struggles were not her own but were carried by Christ and her Christian community. Monica said she felt able to give it a go, “I can try.”

She began hearing from students about how her investment in them increased their commitment to Jesus. Monica was not only encouraged in her current work, but felt she could persevere in ministry. She said, “I feel excited, I feel ready to add more years to continue doing this ministry with students. I’m here because of the sessions I had with Coach.”

Throughout their time in Tanzania with TAFES Arthur and Tamie Davis have immersed and engaged themselves in relationships, culture and theology. This has meant they can share the lasting hope of Jesus to the hearts of TAFES leaders, to not only help them personally, but giving life and longevity to local ministry leaders.

CMS missionaries have strategic opportunities to disciple Christians like Monica in their locations, and your generous monthly or one-off donation to the Lasting Hope Appeal today can help that work continue and grow.

This year, we are inviting our supporters to give generously to the CMS Lasting Hope Appeal by 30 June 2023. There is an ongoing need to grow our regular giving to CMS, to help us confidently send and support our missionaries as we continue to work together for a world that knows Jesus.

Would you prayerfully  consider giving $40 per month to enable strategic gospel ministry through CMS workers around the world, helping to contribute to this goal of an additional $8000 per month?
Like all organisations, we have been recently affected by significant inflation. In the last six months we have seen reductions in regular giving yet our expenses are expected to grow by 11% next financial year. If you already give regularly, are you in a position to consider increasing your giving by 10% to help keep us on track with covering our expenses? Although our primary need is for increased regular giving at this time of year, you may also be able to make a generous one-off end of financial year gift to CMS by 30 June.
