Speakers

Derek Brotherson
is the principal of Sydney Missionary & Bible College, and lecturer in missions and preaching. He will share a series of challenging talks based on the gospel of Luke titled, The Journey to Jerusalem: Life on Mission with Jesus. Learn directly from Jesus’ words and actions about how we can live with mission purpose.

Derek has also worked as a lawyer for the Australian Government Solicitor in Canberra, and served with wife Anna in Southeast Asia with Overseas Missionary Fellowship International (OMF). They have three children and attend City Light Church, Balmain. Derek loves bushwalking, meeting people from diverse cultural backgrounds and playing his cello.

Leonardo De Chirico
is the pastor of Breccia di Roma, a church planted in Rome in 2009. He is the lecturer of Historical Theology at Istituto di Formazione Evangelica e Documentazione in Padova, Italy and his published books include A Christian Pocket Guide to Papacy and A Christian Pocket Guide to Mary: Mother of God? Leonardo is chairman of the theological commission of the Italian Evangelical Alliance and Director of the Reformanda Initiative, equipping evangelical leaders to better understand and engage with Roman Catholicism.

Missionaries

Adam & Helane Ramsay
with Leopold, Elizabeth and Albert
Serving in Japan

Adam and Helane partner with a local church to share Jesus with families. They are developing resources and training to help Japanese churches teach the Bible to kids, including kids’ ministry programs in conferences and teaching at the Samurai Project internship program.

Dene & Rachel Hughes
with Eliott and Simeon
Serving in Japan

Dene works with university students through KGK, encouraging and equipping them to live and grow as Christians and reach their non-Christian friends. Rachel works with church members to run outreach programs for all ages using English classes, music and interactive Bible teaching.

Elle Bryce
Preparing to serve in Japan

Elle is focusing on learning Japanese language and culture this year, with the goal of joining the local IFES affiliated university ministry, Kirisutosha Gakusei Kai (KGK).

Andrew & Margie Newman
Serving in Uganda

In June 2023 Andrew and Margie will return from Home Assignment to the Canon Ndimbirwe Bible College to continue extending their Provisional Accreditation and Registration process, and to equip a new cohort of gospel workers for ministry in the Diocese of North Kigezi with a Certificate or Diploma of Theology.

L & C
with E
Preparing to serve in South East Asia

L & C are focusing on learning the language of their new country.

Rest and Recreation

Waterslide

What do you get when you combine a hill, plastic sheets, detergent shampoo, and water? An epic waterslide! Bring your swimmers, sunscreen and towel and join the young and young-at-heart on Saturday afternoon.

Giant swing

Children aged 10+ can take the challenge of the Vertec Adventure Giant Swing on Monday afternoon. If being lifted 17-metres into the air by rope and harness, and then released to swing through the air until gravity finishes its work sounds like a fun 60-seconds, then register your interest during the Summer School registration process. Cost is $14, to be paid on the day at the MTCC office. Only 40 spots available (first-in, first-served).

Afternoon exploration and electives

You will have the opportunity to explore the local sights with friends and family, or sit in on an elective.

Annual Summer School Volleyball Championship

It’s on again! Start your training and pull a team together for this fun event for the whole family on Sunday afternoon.

Bookshop

Books and resources about mission, Christian living, ministry and more. Purchase something to read in the sunshine in your free time.

Volunteer

We need you! Summer School does not happen without nearly 150 volunteers and youth leaders each year. And the truth is, they love it! It’s such a blessing to be part of a team of helpers, and a great way to get to know people better. If you are interested in volunteering, please indicate during the registration process. All volunteers need a current Blue Card and must agree to our Code of Conduct. After registration closes and rosters are put together, volunteers will be contacted with further details. For more information, please contact the CMS office on (07) 3171 3020 or qnnsw@cms.org.au.

Share

We invite you to help us tell the rest of the community about Summer School so that no one misses out! Download resources to share at your church, youth group, study group, school or across social media:

Children & Youth

Children aged from creche to grade 12 are welcome at Summer School. Age-specific programs are designed to ignite interest in mission and encourage interaction with the Bible, all while having fun with new and old friends. Young people will enjoy food, games, friends, learning, chill time, staying up late (sorry parents!) and even a waterslide (back by popular demand). Add to this a focus on following Jesus and understanding world mission, and you will find the program builds beautifully on the Biblical teaching you are doing at home.

All children aged 3+ will meet missionaries, hear about their unique lives and have the opportunity to interact with them and understand how all Christians can be active in world mission.

Mornings: age appropriate Bible teaching, small group discussions and games.
Afternoons: free time to spend with family, exploring local attractions, playing with new friends or attending electives with parents.

Book early to save a spot for your child

We strive to provide a place for every child at Summer School. This means ensuring the right ratio of supervision, well-equipped spaces, safety precautions and catering. It means spaces are limited, so be sure to book early. If spots sell out, we have a waiting list so you can be notified if any places open up.

FAQs

Can I register for CMS Summer School the day the conference starts?
Registration will remain open up to and during the conference, January 6-11, 2023. However, registration for accommodation, meals and the children & youth program will close after December 2, 2022. The children & youth program may close earlier, if maximum numbers are reached.

When does check-in open?
Check-in for day visitors is from 8:30am daily. If you have booked accommodation or camping, the check in and check out times are on the Information Sheet.

Most people drive to the venue, as there is no public transport. The nearest train stations are either Beenleigh (followed by a 40-minute taxi/Uber) or Helensvale (followed by a 30-minute taxi/Uber). People who do not drive should arrange their own transport with friends, family, or other attendees.

Has the cost of coming to Summer School increased?
The increase in cost was a difficult but necessary decision for CMS to make due to the increase in costs from suppliers across the board. CMS has tried its best to minimise the on charge of price increase to our supporters.

For example, the program cost for full-time adults and full-time children in Grade 4 to Grade 12 has increased, while program cost for uni students, concession card holders, and children aged 0 to 4 has largely remained the same. Full-time program cost for children in Pre-grade 1 to Grade 3 has decreased. The cost of onsite accommodation and food for adults and children in Grade 7 to Grade 12 has increased by varying amounts, while the cost of onsite accommodation and food for children aged 0 to grade 6 has largely remained the same.

If you want to come to Summer School and are experiencing financial difficulties, please reach out to CMS by phone on 07 3171 3020 or email qnnsw@cms.org.au. We would love to see how we can help.

Is there mobile reception
Mobile reception is patchy. Any urgent emails for guests may be sent to qnnsw@cms.org.au
This will be checked intermittently during the day. However, we cannot guarantee we are able to pass on any messages.

Can I bring a pet?
No, sorry. No animals are allowed on site.

I have food allergies, how will they be catered for?
If you are staying in one of our fully catered sites, as part of the booking process, you will be asked about the allergies you have.  There is a range of different diet options. If your allergy requires that you carry an Epi-pen, you will be asked to email CMS QNNSW a copy of your ASCIA plan. For people staying at WEC and CMS there is a ‘No nuts’ policy.
