CMS Sunday is a fantastic way to encourage, educate and involve your church in cross-cultural missions.
You could dedicate a segment of your church service to sharing about your CMS missionary, or run an entire service focussed on cross-cultural mission. Below are some ideas and resources to help promote your link missionary and partnership with CMS.
Important note on secure workers: Please check your link missionary’s security guidelines. This will help you navigate how you can mention your link missionary during the service. If your church service is online or livestreamed publicly, please do not mention the details of your secure link missionary. Please refer to them by the first letter of their first name only (eg. M instead of Mila), refer only to their region, not specific location, and as CMS workers instead of missionaries.
If you want to run a church service focussed on cross-cultural mission and your link missionaries, that’s great! Here are some suggestions for mission-focused elements you can include in it.
In the week leading up to the service, get in touch with the service/ prayer leader and ask they pray for these particular areas:
You could ask your link missionaries to put together a video update to share with your church. Some secure missionaries are unable to send videos and others will be able to. If you have any questions about this contact the CMS QNNSW office.
Download presentation slides
You can use our presentation slides to help highlight CMS missionaries, the regions they work in, and the work of CMS.
Download social media graphics
Use these graphics to support your social media efforts in the lead up to your mission focussed service.
Below is a template you can use and personalise for your church’s social media post:
This weekend we’re excited to focus on cross-cultural mission in this week’s service. Together, we will praise God for how he is using missionaries around the world to bring people to himself.
Our church supports CMS missionaries [insert name] in [location of service]. They work with churches like us to see a world that knows Jesus. Find out more about them via [link to their missionary page].
You can find the missionary page here. Click on their profile to get the unique URL.
Download church bulletin graphic
Use this graphic in your church newsletter to highlight your missions focussed service and encourage your church members to consider supporting cross-cultural mission.
Download a response form
If church members prefer not to give online, you may send them this giving and prayer response form which they can print and mail directly to CMS.
CMS has created four Bible studies available here. These studies are designed to help Christians think about how they can pray, care, give and go in God’s global mission.
There are a number of ways you can encourage people in your church to give:
Regular giving
Click here to go the donation page. Regular and consistent giving is a great way to show an ongoing commitment to cross-cultural mission and your link church missionary.
The CMS Lasting Hope Appeal
Through May and June each year, CMS runs the Lasting Hope Appeal. This is an opportunity for supporters to make a one off donation to missionaries.
