CMS Summer School update

We are pleased to announce that we are going ahead with plans for an on-site conference for CMS Summer School 2021 in Katoomba. Read on for an update regarding our plans to proceed with the conference in a safe and effective way.

Why we’re proceeding

CMS Summer School has always been a wonderful way for believers to start their year spiritually refreshed as they lift their eyes to God’s work around the world. For this reason, CMS staff are committed to doing all they can to enable Summer School to take place in 2021.

With positive progress being made in the management of COVID-19 in NSW, and multiple contingencies being put in place, the decision has been made to plan for an on-site conference in January 2021.

We considered several options for running Summer School amidst the COVID-19 period – including running an online-only conference, or a conference with satellite campuses.

The decision to plan for an on-site Summer School conference came down to a few key factors. Most significantly is that at its heart, Summer School is a family conference. Any change in the conference plan would need to allow for children and youth to take part as well.

Another factor is the tradition of a yearly holiday in the Blue Mountains enjoyed by many families each year at Summer School. Staff wanted to ensure that Summer School 2021 could still be a restful time away in Christian fellowship for adults and families.

Planning for a safe conference

In light of this decision, CMS staff are working hard to ensure that Summer School can go ahead in a safe and scalable way. This includes carefully planning the conference so that it can be quickly adjusted if the COVID-19 situation changes in NSW.

We are considering livestreaming options for attendees who have registered for Summer School in Katoomba but are unable to enter the site due to possible COVID-19 restrictions.

We are prayerfully optimistic about the possibility of providing a full Youth and Children’s program at Summer School. The restrictions that may be in place for adults in January 2021 will not necessarily apply to children and youth in the same way.

What should I do?

Interested Summer School 2021 attendees should book their accommodation as per usual, and register once applications open in mid-August.

CMS Summer School will go ahead in Katoomba, with multiple contingencies in place to enable us to proceed in line with the current Public Health Orders and restrictions.

Will you pray?

There is a lot of work ahead to ensure that CMS Summer School can go ahead in a safe and effective way. Will you pray for all those involved in the planning of Summer School – and ask that God would enable this conference to be an encouraging time of hearing from God’s word and CMS missionaries?

Registration for CMS Summer School will open mid-August at nswsummerschool.org.au.
