CMS Summer Conferences 2016

CMS Federal Secretary Peter Rodgers speaking at CMS NSW & ACT Summer School.

January is always an exciting month for CMS. Across the month, thousands of supporters gather at CMS Summer Conferences organised by all of our branches, all over Australia.

This year, Summer Conferences were greatly encouraging times of faithful Bible teaching, enriching fellowship and challenging opportunities to consider God’s call to take the gospel to the nations.

CMS NSW & ACT Summer School endured a very wet and chilly week in Katoomba, but the atmosphere inside was much warmer. Attendees enjoyed presentations from a number of missionaries, and were particularly encouraged to consider taking God’s “unstoppable gospel” across Australia and the world.

Attendees at CMS QNNSW’s Summer School were challenged to consider themselves strangers in the world, here for a time to do God’s mission. Their Facebook live blog summed the message up well on Day 2: “All of us today, as God’s people, are living in a sense of displacement. We are living in exile, awaiting our eternal home with Christ. Especially as the culture around us continues to move against us… we are indeed living as strangers and sojourners in this world. Keep holding firmly onto our living hope in Jesus!”

CMS VIC’s Summer Under the Son conference had a similar theme to QNNSW – “We Are Strangers”. Attendees were blessed by talks from the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney Dr Glenn Davies, and CMS staff member Sam McGeown. As at all the Summer Conferences, there were also a number of elective seminars run by cross-cultural experts (including many of our very own missionaries!) on topics like “Sharing the gospel with people from South Asia” and “Is Islam good or evil?”

The CMS SANT Summer Encounter was based on the theme “Looking Forward, Living Now”. Speakers Mike Roe (CMS worker preparing to serve in Namibia) and Greg Anderson (Bishop of the Diocese of the Northern Territory) helped attendees understand how they can live lives that reflect their hope in heaven. Greg Anderson also shared his insights into the Indigenous Church in Australia.

CMS WA Summer School is the final CMS Summer Conference for 2016, and will kick off on Friday evening.

Please thank God for all that he has done at the conferences so far, and pray for a wonderful and encouraging weekend in WA!
