Tim and Catherine Walker
Butare
Rwanda is a country undergoing major rebuilding and reconciliation following the 1994 genocide. In the wake of this disaster the Protestant Church has been growing rapidly. With a population of 80,000, Butare is Rwanda’s second largest city and the site of the only university in the country.
Tim works as a consultant physician at the Central Hospital of the University of Butare (CHUB), educating and mentoring senior students and postgraduate doctors. Catherine currently focuses on caring for their children and is investigating local opportunities for teacher training. The Walkers are members of the English congregation at Butare Anglican Cathedral, attended mainly by Rwandan university students. They are continuing their evening Kinyarwanda language study in 2012.
