Prayer Points for CMS missionaries

December Week 1
Sunday 1 – East Asia
Monday 2 – Japan
Praise the Lord with Steven and Sandra Parsons for the opportunity to give foster care to a Japanese baby, Hikaru, and please pray that they will able to grieve the separation in a healthy way when they hand him over for placement with his adoptive family this month. Please pray with Kellie Nicholas for the team of KGK staff and students attending National Training Event in Canberra this week, that it will be a great time of mutual encouragement and learning. Brad and Michelle Jackson pray that God would work through the Christmas events at church to grow his kingdom. Pray particularly for the ladies’ Bible study group as they watch and discuss the movie Maria. Nathan and Maki Clapham (NSW and ACT, going to Japan next year) will leave for Japan, God willing, on 13 January. Pray for their goodbyes, and for their sons Samuel and Ian as they make the transition. Thank God with Naomi Smith (STW, NSW and ACT) for 11 bold Chuo University Christian students who are seeking to fill a hall with 200 people for an evangelistic Christmas concert. Pray for them to connect with non-Christians and Christians on their campus of 30,000. Please pray also for Karen Darda and Dene and Rachel Hughes.
Tuesday 3 – Singapore / Timor Leste / Malaysia / Fiji
Mark and Rosemary Dickens give thanks for Mark’s recent visit to a nearby gospel-poor country where, despite difficulty and persecution, God’s Church is growing. Pray for plans to run a four-day expository preaching workshop there early next year. Thank God with Christopher and Grace Adams for a three-week stay with a pastor’s family in Liquisa where they continued language learning and helped out with the children and youth holiday program. Please also commit Tony and Susie Wright to prayer.
Wednesday 4 – Cambodia / Thailand
Inpa and Vana Eliezer pray that theCelebrating Church and Nummanna Community members will take time to understand the significance of Jesus’ birth and joyfully celebrate it with their family and friends. Rolf and Bonnie Lepelaar pray for their Khmer pastor, who will be leading Christmas services in five locations around the country. Pray that he will have safe travel and that many people will hear the good news of Jesus. Please pray for Dave and Leoni Painter and family as they prepare to return to Cambodia. Pray especially for a successful completion of medicals, development of ministry plans for the next three or four years, completion of home schooling, travel and packing arrangements. Wim and Maaike Prins thank the Lord for new opportunities to conduct a series of preaching workshops in two neighbouring provinces. Ken and Alison Thompson praise God for the official opening of the new large meeting building on the church property. Pray that this event encouraged many local Christians and was a good witness to the non-Christians who attended.
Thursday 5 – Indonesia
Friday 6 – Middle East
Please pray for the CMS workers in the Middle East who cannot be named for security or privacy reasons.
Saturday 7 – Jordan / Pakistan
Please pray with With Steve and Jenny Sonneman for Christians to be effective in outreach over the Christmas period, for churches to be strengthened and for God’s protection on them as they gather together at this time. Please also commit to prayer Lex and June Macqueen (Final Home Assignment), Malcolm and Charissa Forrest and David and Georgina Newmarch.
December Week 2
Sunday 8 – South Asia / Central Asia
Please pray for the CMS workers in South and Central Asia who cannot be named for privacy or security reasons.
Monday 9 – Nepal
With Gordon and Ruth Russell, give thanks that the INF Conference last month was an inspiring time together for the INF missionary team. Pray for Kirstin Hawkshaw as she settles back into Australia for Home Assignment and prepares for Summer School in January. Please pray also for Bruce and Libby Hayes, Leigh and Tamara Filmer and Kate Dalitz.
Tuesday 10 – Branches
NSW and ACT: Please pray for Mick Hyam, the new Youth and Children’s worker for CMS NSW and ACT. Pray for energy, wisdom and patience as he joins our team and embarks on his first Summer School. QNNSW: Please pray for CMS- QNNSW Summer School 2014 volunteers. Pray also for careful planning for the event and hearts prepared to hear and act among those who attend. SA/NT: Please pray with CMS SA/NT for Summer Encounter preparations. TAS: Please pray for good registrations for Summerview. VIC: Pray for CMS Victoria staff and volunteers as they prepare for Summer Under the Son (SUTS) 2014. Pray that during SUTS, many may receive God’s word and that they may be challenged to grow in their commitment to global mission and a greater concern for the peoples of the world. WA: Please pray that people would be ready to listen and obey as God’s word is taught at the summer conferences around Australia.
Wednesday 11 – Mexico / Bolivia / Chile
Peter and Sarah Sholl give thanks for L, who is studying Luke’s gospel with Sarah and understanding for the first time who Jesus is. Adrian and Anita Lovell pray that God would work through their church’s kids’ club this month to bring children to know Jesus’ love for them and to trust in him alone for their salvation. Please pray also for Andrew and Paulina Cox and their work in Punta Arenas.
Thursday 12 – Chile
Stephen and Rebecca Shead give thanks for the group of eight students who are finishing their two years of study at CEP this month. Pray that the Lord would use them greatly in his service, and pray for Stephen, Frances and Michael as they complete all their marking. Gary and Julie Haddon (NSW and ACT, going to Chile next year) praise God for their wonderful link churches and supporters. Please pray for the smooth processing of their visa applications. Pray also for Michael and Jo Charles , Tim and Sally Swan (Final Home Assignment) and Frances Cook.
Friday 13 – Argentina / Children’s Education
Saturday 14 – North Australia
Wayne Oldfield and Mandy Jones pray for missionaries on Home Assignment attending Missionaries Conference at Katoomba this weekend, that it would be a valuable time of sharing, teaching and encouraging each other in following Christ. Terry and Liz McCoy give thanks for God’s provision for them while living in a remote community for one month and experiencing some of the pains and joys of life there. Please also commit to prayer Steve and Narelle Etherington and Chris and Karen Webb (NSW and ACT, going to northwest Australia next year).
December Week 3
Sunday 15 – Northern Territory
Praise God for the many churches and individuals Tavis and Kate Beer have met with in Victoria. Give thanks for their encouragement and continued gospel partnership. Please pray also for Ruth Brigden, who has just started Home Assignment.
Monday 16 – CMS-A Office
Give thanks for the opportunity to gather with CMS-A missionaries at Missionaries Conference over the weekend. Please thank God for Federal Council, which took place in November. Praise God for the fruitful discussions and for good decisions that were made. Please pray for Peter Rodgers as he prepares to speak at CMS-QNNSW Summer School, and for CMS-A staff attending other summer conferences to speak about mission opportunities.
Tuesday 17 – Slovenia
Leon and Lee pray that God would use the newly published Slovene translation of John Lennox’s book, God’s Undertaker for his glory. Pray particularly that God would soften the hardened hearts of Slovenia’s many sceptics and atheists. Please pray with Kingsley and Veronica Box that God will give opportunities to them and Slovene Christians to talk with friends and relatives about Christ during the Christmas season. Please pray also for Mark and Rochelle Groombridge.
Wednesday 18 – Spain
John and Jodi Lovell pray that their church Christmas services will provide unique opportunities to share the gospel and connect with people who are not regular church attenders. Pray with Mike and Tania Snowdon for Mike as he does his first sermon in Spanish at church on 22 December. Andrew and Dominique Gifford pray for a single mum who has been coming to church, that she may have her thirst fully quenched by Jesus. Ellie Firth (TAS, going to Spain next year) gives thanks for Missionaries Conference over the weekend. Please pray with Ellie for a good time with family over Christmas as she says goodbye. Please pray also for Ian and Ruth Batey and Ralph and Kylie Whitten (Final Home Assignment).
Thursday 19 – Germany
Rob and Arabelle Horne pray for good opportunities to connect with non-church families and individuals at their church carol service and nativity play service. Klaus and Judith Hickel praise God for the faithful team involved in a diverse range of ministries that make the German language ministry at Leipzig English Church possible. Praise God with Mimy Gardner (Affiliate, NSW and ACT) for the willingness of an older German Christian lady to edit Bible studies and songs translated from English into German. Pray with Mike and Caroline Clark that the Lord of the harvest will continue to raise up and equip many more gospel workers for Germany. Please pray also for Tim and Andrea Field.
Friday 20 – France / Switzerland
With Caroline Evenden, pray for good follow-up from the GBU Toulouse Christmas evangelistic dinner on 1 December. Pray with Andrew and Claire Livingstone that the Lord would raise up local, mature believers who are passionate to join with them in building their ministry amongst international students. Please pray for Daniel and Kate Morris (NSW and ACT, going to France next year) as they farewell friends and family and pack to leave. Pray for God’s strength and for quality time with those closest to them. Joyce Chu (Affiliate, NSW and ACT) thanks God for an encouraging weekend at the GBU camp on the theme of prayer. Please pray also for Libby Leach and Paul and Sandra.
Saturday 21 – Ireland / Italy / Malta / Eurasia
As various Christmas Carol evangelistic events take place on Dublin university campuses, please pray with Catherine Read that students will be bold to invite their friends and continue conversations about who Jesus is and why he came. Andrew and Sarah Lubbock ask that the Lord would fill Florence GBU students with love for Jesus and their friends, so they would then share the gospel with them. Geoff and Robyn thank God that the university retreat went well and pray for the monthly church outreaches they are starting. Thank God with Gillian Law (QNNSW, going to Italy next year) for time with family over Christmas and New Year. Pray for all the goodbyes to friends and family as she prepares to leave Australia.
December Week 4
Sunday 22 – Rwanda / Kenya
Tim and Catherine Walker pray that this Christmas the many Rwandans who marked ‘Christian’ on the census, but do not know Jesus personally will let him into their lives and spend the year ahead drawing close to him. As discussions continue about David and Prue Boyd’s (VIC) return to Congo in 2014, pray that all the important details will be sorted out quickly. Give thanks for a refreshing and stimulating time at St Andrew’s Hall. Please pray also for Paul and Cathy Sampson, currently on Home Assignment.
Monday 23 – Nigeria / Ethiopia
Pray with Shane and Naomi Rubie for a joyful Christmas where they can reflect on its true meaning, rather than focusing on missing family. Pray with Roger and Lynn Kay for Christmas celebrations at St Matthew’s and Retrak – that people will understand and celebrate God becoming man with joy. Please pray also for Alan and Helen Wood and Maggie Crewes.
Tuesday 24 – Tanzania
Arthur and Tamie Davis pray for a good time learning about Tanzanian student ministry and connecting with key people at the TAFES national conference over the Christmas break. Robert and Mary Reside (Affiliates, VIC) pray for good rains this wet season after five years of poor rains. Pray also for the students at Msalato Bible College who are sitting exams. Please pray also for Malcolm and Elmari Buchanan.
Wednesday 25 – Tanzania
Pray with John and Jill Morshead for good health for their daughter and her husband as they await the birth of their first child in February. Please pray with Mike and Katie Taylor for students at Munguishi as they do their end of semester exams. Geoff and Martha Boye praise God for Christmas. Please pray for them as they cope with being away from family and friends in Australia, and pray for Geoff as he prepares to start teaching in January. Please pray also for Jane Window.
Thursday 26 – Tanzania
Pray with Liz Burns for the people continuing the Jesus film ministry to be faithful and committed. Please pray with Andy and Jenny Bennett for Canon Darlington, Diocesan Secretary, as he continues to face huge work challenges while attempting to pace himself and to balance family responsibilities. Give thanks to God with Brad and Neroli Galvin for the opportunity to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus this Christmas with family, for the first time in three years.
Friday 27 – Tanzania
Matthew and Samantha Archer are travelling to the Brackenhurst New Years’ Conference today in Kenya. Please pray that they and the other CMS missionaries attending would be spiritually refreshed. Please pray that Jono and Amy Vink will have many opportunities this Christmas to talk about the greatest gift ever given. Please pray also for Helen Hoskins and Glen and Dominique Turner.
Saturday 28 – Namibia / South Africa
David and Alisan Greeff give thanks for everyone involved in the Rukwangali translation process for the Christian Certificate in Ministry. Pray that David would find a willing co-leader for the Bible study at the Anglican church. Pray that Nathan and Diane Lovell would have a relaxing break from both GWC and South African Sign Language translation this month, and quality time as a family. Please also commit Simon and Margaret Gillham to prayer.
January Week 1
Sunday 29 – CMS Development and Training
With the team at St Andrew’s Hall, give thanks for a good finish to the course. Pray that the team has good preparation and planning for 2014. With Mentac give thanks for the new people applying for next year. Please pray for visas to be granted to those whose situation in 2014 is uncertain.
Monday 30 – World Mission
Please commit to prayer the CMS summer conferences that will take place next month. Pray that through these conferences, more people in Australia would be encouraged and challenged to consider going to serve cross-culturally. Please pray also for all those speaking at these conferences, and particularly for the international speakers.
Tuesday 31 – CMS Branch Support Ministries
Give thanks for all those who have contributed to the work of Medical Mission Aid (MMA) (VIC) and Mission Aid Group (MAG) (NSW) this year. Praise God for the support and encouragement that many former missionaries enjoy through the work of Former Missionaries’ Fellowship (QNNSW, SA/NT, VIC/TAS). Pray that many people are encouraged to explore mission issues more deeply through the books available from the CMS Bookstore (QNNSW) at Summer School next week.
