Saturday 1 – Jordan / Middle East
Pray for personnel serving God in this region.
Sunday 2 –Syria / Pakistan / South Asia / Afghanistan
With Steve and Jenny Sonneman ask us to pray for churches and organisations seeking to help thousands of families after more massive flooding in southern Sindh.
Monday 3 – Nepal / India
Bruce and Libby Hayes give thanks for the smooth election of a new prime minister and pray the current sense of hope will last. Thank God with Leigh and Tamara Filmer for the provision of a short-termer to teach at the mission primary school in Surkhet. Pray for Emily Lewis (Affiliate, SA/NT) as she heads back to Australia to work out what God wants her to do next. Pray that God will keep giving Kate Dalitz insight into what he is doing in Nepal and the International Nepal Fellowship’s part in it. Pray with Kirstin Hawkshaw for Christians in Nepal this month during the many significant Hindu festivals, for the light of Christ to be seen. Pray for Elizabeth Lee (Affiliate, QNNSW) as she serves as a dentist in Jumla, that she’ll point people to Christ in all she does and says. During a turbulent time at Hebron, Mark & Lynn Noonan (Affiliates, NSW & ACT) thank the Father for the great things he does, and that in our weakness he is strong.
Tuesday 4 – Spain
Pray for Ian and Ruth Batey as they prepare to return on Home Assignment next month. Join Ralph and Kylie Whitten’s prayer that local Christians will be brought to maturity through pastoral care and the teaching of God’s word. Pray that Andrew and Dominique Gifford can keep ‘sowing broadly’ to find people interested to learn about Jesus. John and Jodi Lovell praise God for a wonderful church family in Valencia.
Wednesday 5 – France
Keep praying with Xavier and Libby Lukins for more gospel workers for France. Danny and Debbie Mullins ask us to pray for the GBU groups starting up – for godly leadership, and that new students will find them. Pray that God will equip Libby Leach to encourage French students to share their faith. Eugene & Vanessa Rea (Affiliates, NSW & ACT) ask us to pray for people with whom they’ve been sharing the gospel: Nellie, Helen, Charmian, Sherry, Laura, Ari, Steph, Claudine, John, Judy, Bernard and Edwige.
Thursday 6 – Children’s Education / Italy / Ireland
Children’s Education – give thanks that Alleytia Bennett has started a part-time Nursing course in Sydney, where she is living with her grandparents and attending a local church. With Andrew and Sarah Lubbock , ask God to raise up more Italian gospel preachers. As many in Ireland search for meaning, pray with Catherine Read that they will know true life through Jesus.
Friday 7 – Germany / Eurasia
Pray for Rob and Arabelle Horne as they consider how to use their time amid many possibilities. Give thanks with Tim and Andrea Field for recent opportunities to get to know German neighbours better. Pray for Chris & Jeni as they continue with Final Home Assignment. Ask God to bless Michael & Caroline Clark (NSW & ACT) as they build strong relationships with link churches and supporters. Join Rachel’s prayer that believers in Eurasia will have a love for the lost, especially their families.
Saturday 8 – Slovenia / Malta
Pray with Leon & Lee for the start of uni activities, especially the short visit of Lindsay Brown and his wife Ann she’ll be speaking to students on 12 October. Mark and Rochelle Groombridge praise God for a new couple who’ve started coming to REC. Peter(REC pastor) & Lidija Novak thank God for their recent time in Australia and the great moments of encouragement. Kingsley and Veronica Box pray that God will heal Slovenian pastor Jovan Stupar, who fell from a ladder in late August and has been in an artificial coma. Pray that Geoff and Robyn will settle back into Malta well, and for good contacts at the start of the university year.
Sunday 9 – Mexico / Bolivia
Peter and Sarah Sholl give thanks for Peter’s opportunities to build strong working relationships at conferences in Brazil and Chile. Ask God to provide for Andrew and Paulina Cox’s needs as they travel to Santiago for physical and spiritual refreshment. Adrian and Anita Lovell give thanks for times with family and friends before their departure next month.
Monday 10 – Chile
Pray with Michael and Jo Charles that cultural ‘Christians’ will be introduced to the real Jesus by real believers. Tim and Sally Swan ask us to pray for the CEP as it trains up passionate gospel preachers who will point people clearly to Christ. Pray for Stephen and Rebecca Shead as Stephen speaks on Deuteronomy at the SIM Spiritual Life Conference in late October. Frances Cook prays for guidance about the best ways to serve among the congregation at Ñuñoa. Pray with Lesley Doy that Chilean Christians will take a stand against the destructive trends of modern living.
Tuesday 11 – Chile / Argentina
Bruce and Bron Hallyburton give thanks for the national Anglican youth conference in Santiago from 8 to10 October. Martin and Julie Field praise God that Z has returned to Julie’s Tuesday Bible group and seems to be grasping hold of God’s word.
Wednesday 12 – Rwanda / Nigeria
Pray for Tim and Catherine Walker as they continue studying Kinyarwanda and building relationships with local people. Alan and Helen Wood praise God for a good start to deputation and pray for peace in northern Nigeria.
Thursday 13 – Ethiopia / Kenya
Mark and Annette Bennett pray for new well-trained people to join their team in the midwifery college. Pray with Stafford & Ray Cowling (Affiliates, SA/NT) that new high-school students at Bingham will respond to the gospel during their time there. Pray with Roger and Lynn Kay for St Matthew’s as it welcomes new people to Addis Ababa. Pray for their student minister, Deng Mark, whose wife and 10-year-old son recently died within two weeks of each other. Maggie Crewes gives thanks for a new night shelter – a large compound with enough sleeping space for 50-plus kids. Pray for safety for Cheryl Webster (Affiliate, NSW & ACT) as she finishes her time in Addis Ababa and prepares to travel to South Sudan via Nairobi. Pray with Joe and Sue Radkovic for stability in Kenya, allowing the true gospel to be proclaimed. Pray with Paul and Catherine Sampson for peaceful implementation of Kenya’s constitution in the leadup to general elections next year.
Friday 14 – Tanzania
Praise God with Neville and Elspeth Carr (on Final Home Assignment) for his loving protection as Neville receives medical treatment. Pray that Judy Lund can effectively promote God’s mission on deputation. Malcolm and Elmari Buchananask us to pray for Malcolm as he settles into the new SJUT academic year, which started on Monday. Pray with Roy & Hillary Hoevenaars for SJUT students and staff’s commitment to Christ in the face of distractions and temptations. Pray that John and Jill Morshead will make good use of the gospel opportunities God gives them.
Saturday 15 – Tanzania
Praise God that Jane Window will be ordained as a deacon for ministry with the English congregation of Dodoma cathedral on 23 October. Marilyn Wright (Affiliate, QNNSW) prays for the wellbeing of present staff and the recruitment of new staff. Debbie Lesleighter (Affiliate, VIC) gives thanks for a good start to the school year and Girls’ Group. Lynne Clarke (Affiliate, VIC) asks us to pray for wisdom and patience for Msalato staff as they teach and lead the students in all their needs. Pray for those in villages around Msalato who only have enough food for a meal every two days, and for local Christians to respond generously. Mike & Katie Taylor thank God for a great start to the college term, and for the 12 enthusiastic new students. Pray for Nigel & Aino Lee-Jones (Affiliates, TAS) as Aino teaches English and trains teachers at Munguishi and Nigel does practical work around the college. Please pray with Ken & Dianne Phillis (Affiliates, NSW & ACT) that the Holy Spirit will work powerfully at evangelistic rallies planned for the next few months.
Sunday 16 – Tanzania
Pray with Ian and Fiona Oates for the eight students beginning their first year at Amani CTC this month. With Brad and Neroli Galvin, pray that the gospel will be proclaimed faithfully throughout Tanzania. Pray with Nigel and Rose Klein for smooth processing of Nigel, Lucy and Sarah’s visa renewals. Andy and Jenny Bennett pray for good rains so the people of Tanzania (mostly subsistence farmers) will have enough to eat. Pray for Liz Burns’s team as they integrate new members into the ministry.
Monday 17 – Tanzania
Pray with Matthew and Samantha Archer for smooth processing of work permit reapplications for them and others in Mara. Helen Hoskins asks for prayer for the GB company in Bukima village, to be commissioned on 23 October. With Jono and Amy Vink, pray that God will build his Church in Mara as his people teach and live out his word. Ask God to bless Glen and Dominique Turner, whose baby was due on 17 September. Pray that Kees and Cindy Bootsma will teach well, and their students will understand and be diligent.
Tuesday 18 – Namibia / South Africa / Zambia
Pray with Simon and Margaret Gillham for more Namibian staff for NETS, and the funds to support them. Thank God with David and Alisan Greeff that concerned Namibians are seeking to reintroduce the Bible into schools. Pray for strength for Ans van der Zwaag during the months leading up to Final Home Assignment. Pray for Mark and Carol Grieve</a> and their young children during the travel and busyness of deputation. Nathan and Diane Lovell give thanks that they were able to attend CESA’s Synod in Durban and meet many South African clergy. Pray that Elizabeth Hawthorne(Affiliate, VIC) can swiftly readjust to life in Melbourne.
Wednesday 19 – China
John and Janelle Menear pray for more volunteers to step up in various ministries at St Andrew’s, enabling smooth adjustment to new service times.
Thursday 20 – Japan
Steven and Sandra Parsons pray for wisdom as Steven continues leading the TEAM Japan office through a restructure. Karen Darda gives thanks for opportunities to share with supporters what God is doing in Japan. Pray for Kellie Nicholas as she settles into the routine of deputation. Brad and Michelle Jackson pray that many fathers will bring their children to their church’s new Kids’ Adventure Club outreach. Join Louise Levick (Affiliate, QNNSW) in praying for contentment in all things, especially the role she has been given. Julianne Chiang (Affiliate, NSW & ACT) praises God for the good turnout at the Lighthouse Church’s Summer Festival (Natsu Fest) outreach. Dene & Rachel Hughes (QNNSW) pray for a fruitful visit for Yamazaki-san, head of KGK, their receiving organisation. Keep praying for Ben & Bec Blemings (Affiliates, QNNSW), who arrived in July to teach English at Soai Christ Church in Yokkaichi.
Friday 21 – Singapore / South East Asia / Thailand / East Asia
Join Philip and Judy Sinden in giving thanks for the vigour and missionary vision of the Singapore Church. With Gavin (Affiliate, NSW & ACT), ask for mercy on East Asians who are trapped in serving dead spirits while ignoring the Father of all spirits. Wells Wong (Affiliate, QNNSW, teaching at Noh Bo Academy, Thailand) praises God for students who have come to know Christ as their Saviour through Wednesday night Bible studies.
Saturday 22 – Cambodia
Inpa and Vana Eliezer praise God for the growth and openness they’ve seen among Celebrating Church leaders. Frances Dong (Affiliate, QNNSW, serving with the Eliezers) asks us to pray for the spiritual growth of Celebrating Church members. Ask God to sustain Rolf and Bonnie Lepelaar on deputation as they continue sharing news of God’s work in Cambodia. Give thanks with Dave and Leoni Painter for the provision of a house near the local university, and pray that it will be an effective base for ministry. Pray with Ken and Alison Thompson that the Mondulkiri church’s student dorm will be ready for the new school year. Wim and Maaike Prins praise God for Dara and his invaluable assistance to Wim in his ministry. Michelle Davies and Rachel McKinnon (Affiliates, NSW & ACT, serving at the Sunshine Centre) ask God for continued help with language learning (especially reading). Pray that as Judith Raisbeck (Affiliate, VIC) teaches at Hope International School in Phnom Penh, she can adapt to new experiences, keeping her eyes on our imperturbable God.
Sunday 23 – Indonesia
Pray with Andrew Buchanan for the 35 trainee ministers part-way through their two-month course.
Monday 24 – Malaysia / Papua New Guinea / Opportunities
Thank God for answering John Hunter’s (Affiliate, NSW & ACT) prayers for the health of his mother (aged 92). Opportunities – keep urgently praying for an experienced teacher to home-school Lucy and Sarah Klein so their mother Rose can serve at Murgwanza Hospital, Tanzania.
Tuesday 25 – Northern Territory
Pray with Rob and Leanna Haynes for ongoing wisdom for Nungalinya principal Jude Long, the college board and supporting churches and mission agencies. Pray with Wayne Oldfield and Mandy Jones for perseverance for those who come to Nungalinya with very low literacy. Ask God to continue guiding Philip and Deanne Gerber into the work that will best use them to support gospel work. Pray for Steve and Narelle Etherington as they contemplate changes to their ministry. Tavis & Kate Beer (VIC) pray for enthusiastic gospel partners who desire to see the world transformed by Christ. Terry & Liz McCoy (NSW & ACT) thank God that they are feeling well supported by their link churches.
Wednesday 26 – Northern Territory
Praise God with Peter and Lyndy Berthon for valued help from Quaker’s Hill Anglican Church and Australian Indigenous Ministries in recent months. Keep praying with Ruth Brigden for Indigenous clergy serving in remote places, who are often lonely and discouraged. Pray with Fred van Brussel (Affiliate, SA/NT) for stability among Woolaning students, in both behaviour and numbers. Give thanks with Liz Clarkson (Affiliate, VIC) for the way God has upheld Woolaning all year, especially in difficult times.
Thursday 27 – CMS Branches
NSW & ACT: give thanks for Coastal Mission Day on Saturday 15 October, an opportunity for supporters on the NSW Central Coast to have their gospel focus expanded. WA: give thanks for staff deputation visits earlier this month to Highgate and the North West Clergy Family Conference. TAS: thank God for the Celebration and AGM last month, and pray for supporters’ passion for mission to keep growing. QNNSW: give thanks for Journey in Mission (3 and 26 October), Townsville Christian Conference (7 to 9 October) and Missions Interlink Short-term Training (14 to 16 October). VIC: pray for staff member Graeme Vines as he develops links between missionaries and parishes, and promotes CMS’s work. SA/NT: pray for many individuals and churches to become partners with the branch’s newest missionaries.
Friday 28 – CMS-A Office / Working Partnerships
CMS-A Office – give thanks for the recent return of Peter Blowes and David Boyd (CMS-TAS) from a pastoral visit to Indonesia. Pray for the Communications team as they cope with a staff shortage and a heavy workload. Working Partnerships – pray for wise and prayerful discussion by CMS Federal Council as it meets in Katoomba this weekend. Give thanks that CMS is owned and governed by its members and pray for more supporters to get involved in setting the future direction of CMS. Pray for CMS UK Chief Executive Tim Dakin as he prepares to become Bishop of Winchester in January, and ask God to raise up a godly leader to take his place.
Saturday 29 – CMS Development and Training / New Missionaries
Pray for Rachel and David Williams as they help plan CMS Missionaries’ Conference, taking place in December. Pray for a great response to a new ministry involving two staff members at St Andrew’s Hall (SAH) that aims to help English learners improve their conversational skills. Andrew & Claire Livingstone (VIC) pray that they’ll depend on God for all things as they begin a language course. Pray that Shane & Naomi Rubie (SA/NT) can share good times with new Ethiopian friends. Klaus & Judith Hickel (NSW & ACT) praise God that Judith has received a health clearance.
Sunday 30 – Churches Under Pressure
Pray for the persecuted Church in Myanmar (Burma) and praise God for leaders like Richard, who is being supported by CMS as he studies a Masters in Theology and is featured in the 2011 Looking for the Perfect Gift? catalogue.
Monday 31 – CMS Branch Support Ministries
Give thanks for former CMS personnel who have faithfully served God and moved on to other ministries. Give thanks for the blessing of being able to keep in touch with CMS news and with each other via the Former Missionaries’ Fellowship (QNNSW, SA/NT, VIC/TAS). Give thanks for those who faithfully run the three branches of FMF and ensure that these lines of communication remain open.
