Description
Hong Kong was siezed by the British after the opium wars of 1840. Last century, rapid growth through liberal economic policies saw it become one of the world's richest cities and the eighth largest economy in the world.
It was returned to China in 1997 under the provision of the Basic Law, which guarantees the maintenance of existing legal, political and economic structures - as well as religious freedom - for the next fifty years.

Prayer Points
- Praise God that after the peaceful return of Hong Kong to China in 1997 the religious freedoms and secular state guaranteed by the Basic Law have been respected.
- Give thanks for the strong commitment to overseas mission amongst Hong Kong's churches. Give thanks also for the flourishing student movement in their universities.
- Pray for more mature Christian leaders to be raised up - many church elders left before the handover in 1997, forcing a sudden rejuvenation of church leadership.
