Profile : South Africa
Description
South Africa has endured enormous upheaval throughout its history. Social, political and economic problems have characterised several decades of internal strife, institutionalised racism, poverty and disease.
Following the end of Apartheid and the formation of the Republic of South Africa, Nelson Mendela and his government began the slow process of healing and redress of decades of oppression and injustice.
Sadly though, one of the tragic hallmarks of the new South Africa is a country ravaged with an escalating HIV/Aids epidemic, high crime rates and unemployment.
While nearly 75% of South Africans identify as being Christian, there is a strong move towards a more pluralist worldview, offering a strident challenge to Christianity's powerful voice.

- For wise government in a troubled land, enabling the establishment of social and economic stability, to make the country a safe place furthering the healing and reshaping of South Africa.
- That the nation, along with the wider world, can tackle the ravages of the HIV/Aids epidemic, with proper education, a health system that can cope with a huge burden and for compassion for the sick and the bereaved.
- Thank God for the 49 theological colleges, their 6000 students and 1000 lecturers, and pray that they take seriously and joyously the task of growing in Christ to serve others and grow His kingdom.
