Description

Egypt's rapidly growing population is the largest in the Arab world. Limited arable land, and dependence on the Nile all continue to overtax resources and stress society. About 22% of Egyptians live below the poverty line.

Islam is the state religion. The Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt is the largest Christian group in the Middle East and since 1930 there has been a growing movement of biblically-based renewal. However, following the events of the Egyptian crisis (2011-2014) these churches have found themselves under increasing pressure and have experienced violent attacks.

Additionally, humanitarian concerns are growing as increasing numbers of refugees are driven into Egypt from Libya, Sudan and conflicts with the Islamic State.

Prayer Points

  • for peace in the Middle East, Libya and Sudan.
  • for support and God's strength for those who are working with refugees.
