Description
Egypt's rapidly growing population is the largest in the Arab world. Limited arable land, and dependence on the Nile all continue to overtax resources and stress society. About 22% of Egyptians live below the poverty line.
Islam is the state religion. The Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt is the largest Christian group in the Middle East and since 1930 there has been a growing movement of biblically-based renewal.
Southern Sudanese have fled to Egypt in their millions, escaping the long civil war in Sudan. Many are Christians and are destitute. The Anglican Church in Cairo has a ministry to these people.
