Kids Leaders and Mission

Mission and Kids

Mission is an important part of the Christian faith. We are saved to go, and we need to be teaching our kids this.

How you can help Kids think about Mission?

PRAY

Spend time reading the newsletters the missionaries connected to your church have sent. Each week at Kids Time pray for something new about what the mission family are doing. Present it in the form of a serial drama... "what are the Jackson's doing this month!!!!!" This will keep the kids interested and connected to the lives of the people they are praying for weekly. This would mean that when the missionaries return from overseas, the kids will know what they have been doing and they won't be strangers coming in from nowhere special.

PRAY AROUND THE WORLD

Pray Around the World
Pray Around the World

Pray around the World is a great little book that kids and leaders will love. It is so child friendly and accessible to all who see it. There are lots of great articles on loads of countries around the world. There are some easy and fun recipes from all different cultures. As well as some fun activities.

Base your Mission program on the book and look at the missionaries featured in the book. Or use some of it for an activity section. Or give it as a take home book to continue thinking about mission in the home.

Connect with Missionaries

A church took photos of themselves with a Koala (toy) around their church and sent the photos and the Koala to the family overseas for them to take photos with the koala.

GIVE

CMS KIDS has kids Money Boxes that you can download and print off, or that we can send out to you. Kids love to put in coins and then see what they can save in 6 months or a year. Some kids who come to Summer under the Son love bringing their money boxes and at Summer Under The Son they can see what that money is doing as they meet and hear what missionaries are doing. Or have a shorter time frame and Andrew will come out and recieve the money boxes from the kids and talk about what the money will do.

GO

Kids can be missionaries now in their schools, homes, and playing groups, but it is also important to keep kids thinking about where God might call them to go. A challenge when a child is 7 can sometimes be a seed for God to use down the track that can bear much fruit.

Wycliffe have created activities to help churches and families think trough Mission for Kids on a CD called the Great Commission Toolbox.
