CMS Vic and Mission Training

Cross Cultural Training is important locally and globally. Locally we have a great multicultural community at our doorstep. Training can help as you connect with your neighbours who are arriving from around the world.

If you are thinking about working cross-culturally overseas and wanting to test out that idea by doing some exploration of what ministry of that kind might look like.

To help you explore cross-cultural ministry and mission opportunities CMS has established partnerships with great organisations who are offering you opportunities to learn about and grow your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in this ministry area.

Through these partnerships CMS is keen to generate more people from across Victoria who have:

  • A heart to serve the Lord
  • Mission awareness
  • Recognised the value of further theological education for their life and ministry
  • A desire to continue developing as mature disciples of Christ
  • Skills for ministry and theological reflection no matter what they do in life
  • The skills and insights to bring to cross-cultural ministry at home or abroad

To achieve these outcomes we have established a partnership with Missions Interlink, an organisations that offer short courses for people seeking to explore cross-cultural ministry opportunities. These are run under the auspice of Missions Interlink in conjunction with other member mission agencies of which CMS is a member.

Transition Training - MILL

click here to connect to Missions Interlink Transition Training website
In the early 1990's several mission agencies met together to consider how they could pool their expertise and resources to provide prefield training for their staff.

The course is designed to enhance the participants' knowledge in Biblical and missiological reflection by providing practical competency development for making an effective transition to another cultural setting.

MILL is a 5 day pre-departure program designed to help people develop the skills, methods, techniques and attitudes necessary to learn another language. Gain a fresh perspective on language learning, while acquiring skills, confidence, flexibility and a boost to beginning language learning.

The course is neither country nor mission specific. The benefits of the program are:

a training program based in experiential adult learning
individual learning contracts ensuring all participants gain the most for themselves

a team of experienced facilitators drawn from a variety of missions and situations

community living enabling peer support and interaction
contact with communities and churches where learning can be pursued and tested

supervised children's programs, geared to assisting your children's transitions

the constant updating of methods and material used
Courses are normally held in Melbourne January and June/July each year.
